iSchoolBand is an amazing online tool geared towards music teachers. Offering a format similar to Facebook, this program allows teachers to keep track of much of the administrative aspects of teaching all in one program. I briefly mentioned this software in a previous article I wrote for MusicEdMajor.Net entitled ,” Join the Web 2.0 Music Classroom” This was an appropriate place for iSchoolBand because it makes many of the administrative tasks completed by music teachers on a daily basis easier, and adds the collaborative nature found in social media. This week, I was able to attend a day-long workshop at Grove City College, hosted by Dr. Joseph Pisano, demonstrating the SoundBeam. While this device has made amazing strides in the field of music therapy, it’s potential in the music classroom is incredible. (more…)
This summer I had the opportunity to teach summer lessons at Somerset Area School District in Somerset, PA. While teaching these lessons to students in grades 4-12, I found that I learned quite a bit as well! This was an amazing opportunity to gain experience and I would recommend it to any Future Music Educator.
Going in to teaching the lessons, I figured it would probably be enough to have the fingerings of each of the instruments in front of me. While this definitely helped for some of the lessons, it was clear that knowing the fingerings was much more beneficial. I think this is the case simply because (1) you don’t have to take time to look it up, and (2) you can play along with them! (more…)
